Best described as a D shape piece of metal that can be used to link chains together. The straightedge is a pin that can be removed to link the chains or rope
To determine the SWL (Safe Working Load) of a shackle first measure the diameter, technically, this is referred to as the Wire Diameter. The SWL of a shackle, in tons, is calculated by using the formula SWL = 3 x D2.
